This toy puppet theatre is from Czechoslovakia circa 1910 on loan from the collection of Ludek Bogner.

"The puppets were manufactured by Lubor Svorcik (*1911 - ?) from Pardubice, Czechoslovakia. He obtained a licence for "a production of art puppets" in 1948. He designed and produced the puppets himself, with the help of his wife until the early 1980's."

In Spring of this year a small group of us created the TORONTO PUPPETRY COLLECTIVE in order to fill a very obvious gap. At the moment there is no operating puppet theatre where audiences can see the many talented puppeteers in the city, province and farther afield on a regular basis. We are very happy to say that we are busy putting together a puppetry performance series under the banner of PUPPET ALLSORTS in which the diverse talents of the community will be showcased. We are starting small with a collection of 7 to 8 performances focused on all-ages but will also be featuring some adult only performances including a PUPPET SLAM at the end of the series. The venue is a beautiful neighbourhood space on Dupont St. near Franklin Avenue (more later) which seats 50.

The inaugural performance of the series will be on Sunday, December 16th and then once a month until June. PUT IT IN YOUR CALENDAR!

We are currently working on our website and other media and hope to be "live" by the end of the month. Please stay tuned to this Newsletter for more information. If you are not currently on our mailing list and would like to be please click here: Subscribe.

If you have a group of 4-8 people we can organize workshops to suit your schedule.

Fedora Upside-Down is proud to announce the second annual FUD festival, Saturday October 6th 2012 at the Ukranian Cultural Centre in Toronto.
This is going to be absolutely huge- 4 stages in three rooms bringing you a non-stop flow of incredible music, poetry, performance art and clown.
The main hall will feature two stages. Situated in the middle of the room, the Bale stage will be a giant barn-style stage made of haybales. Performances will alternate between the Bales and the Mainstage at the end of the hall. Workshops will also take place durin the day in this space. Two bars will serve all manner of fine beverages (including cheap vodka shots) and food. The main hall will be designed and built by Louise Simpson, and Whippersnapper Gallery's Adrian Dilena and Maggie Flynn.
In the smaller hall, The Stray Cat Cabaret will feature intimate performances from singer-songwriters and poets in an environment designed and built by Kosa Kolektiv.
In the third room, the Frolick Theatre will feature music from medium-sized groups, and puppet theatre courtesy of Frolick, who will be performing "Adventures in Slumberland", a series of pieces based on Winsor McCay's comic strip "Little Nemo In Slumberland". This whole environment will be designed and built by Frolick themselves.
TICKETS ARE $2O PRESALE (https://www.ticketpicket.com/fu2)

The most recent deadline, October 1, 2012 has passed but for more information visit the Puppetmongers Website.

Puppetmongers Theatre has been recently selected as a recommending company for the Ontario Arts Council's Theatre Creators' Reserve Program Puppetmongers is seeking applications from artists currently involved in the development of puppetry projects. Our areas of interest and priorities are the development of theatrical work with puppetry, the integration of puppetry into theatre productions, the creation of new forms of puppetry and new theatrical uses of puppetry, and the nurturing of new generation and culturally diverse artists. Projects may be in any stage of development PRIOR to production or workshop production, and these small grants are particularly suited to helping artists with the earliest phases of creation. Grants range from a minimum of $1,500 to a maximum of $5,000.

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE was formed in 2006 in response to our desire to deepen our artistic, collaborative, and community-engaged practices through residency projects that would enable us to develop both intensive and extensive relationships in the Junction - a rapidly changing neighbourhood in Toronto's west end. We share a desire to work collaboratively with artists and non-artists to create work that inspires new conversations; softens boundaries between groups separated by age, culture, ability, and economic status; promotes the presence of art in everyday life and contributes to increasing public engagement in community development. The work we create with communities is used in producing exhibitions, public installations, and celebratory performance events. We are currently working within the walls of the Evangeline Shelter.

Image Foundry specializes in edition printing, custom art reproduction projects, and high-end photo-retouching work.
