Open Door Designs is thrilled to have Jeff Essery's Punch & Judy show in the window. Especially as it is Punch's 350th anniversary! Thank you, Mike Harding, President of the Ontario Puppet Association for assembling the theatre and helping to create such a magical show!

Jeff Essery is a retired CBC graphic designer and life-long Puppeteer who performed Punch & Judy shows at summer festivals and parties throughout Ontario. Jeff was the president of the Ontario Puppetry Association twice, once from 1971 to 1975 and again from 1987 to 1988. Elisha Perry, a working artist in Toronto for over 30 years, created the puppets that you see here.

Tim Anderson creator of Houseboat Memoirs and the Story of My Store Blog took the wrong bus and visited Open Door Designs last month. He produced this little audio doc. Wrong buses sometimes lead us somewhere. Thanks Tim.

IT IS STILL MR. PUNCH'S BIRTHDAY!!

MIKE PETERSEN HAS CREATED A NEW SET OF PUNCH & JUDY PUPPETS - can't wait to see the show.

Grant Harding of The Abstractions took this piece which he performed at Puppets Up last year and turned it into a short film.
This Bob Baker piece is making the rounds.
I like the marionette demo piece as well for those not familiar with marionettes.

I have been meaning to include this...finally...

How a deformed, child-murdering, wife-beating, psychopathic hand puppet became a cultural icon, a famous satirical magazine, and a four-century-old folkplay cherished by small children for enacting horrendous acts of violence. A documentary by Chris Brookes on Ideas on CBC Radio.

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE: DONATIONS NEEDED:
fabric, wool, embroidery floss, needles, crochet hooks, old sweaters

RED WAGON COLLECTIVE was formed in 2006 in response to our desire to deepen our artistic, collaborative, and community-engaged practices through residency projects that would enable us to develop both intensive and extensive relationships in the Junction - a rapidly changing neighbourhood in Toronto's west end. We share a desire to work collaboratively with artists and non-artists to create work that inspires new conversations; softens boundaries between groups separated by age, culture, ability, and economic status; promotes the presence of art in everyday life and contributes to increasing public engagement in community development. The work we create with communities is used in producing exhibitions, public installations, and celebratory performance events. We are currently working within the walls of the Evangeline Shelter.
